In general we are dealing with three different types of veins that show on the surface of the skin: We have varicose veins, spider veins - also known as telangiectasias, and reticular veins. All these can be treated with some type of sclerosing agent and technique. However some larger varicose veins may benefit from phlebectomy which is surgical removal of the vein. Microphlebectomy is a variant of phlebectomy where the incisions are small (usually less than 2 mm's).
