How do I add Site Search? (Google?)

Two methods of adding search to your website

Method one:

http://www.google.com/coop/cse/

  • Include one website, multiple websites, or specific webpages
  • Host the search box and results on your own website
  • Customize the colors and branding to match your existing webpages

 

Method two:

Sign up for Google Adsense and Copy the html codes for "AdSense for Search"

Robots Meta Tag/ robots.txt file

I use this in case I have a "secret page" on the internet, which I don't want indexed.

<META name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">

Not all spider's follow a meta command, but may follow a robots.txt file.

 

In that file, it would look something like:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /privatedirectory/
Disallow: /directory/largepage.htm

 

or

User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /privatedirectory/
Disallow: /directory/largepage.htm

I don't think this is a huge SEO trick. I think it's an anti SEO trick.  You can of course tell it for sure to index:
